Consultant Ophthalmologist

Dr Dimitri Yellachich

Dr Dimitri Yellachich completed his medical degree at the University of Western Australia.

Dr Yellachich undertook subspecialty training at the Western Eye Hospital, London, UK and at Stanford University, California, USA in the area of medical and surgical retinal.

Clinical Focus

Dr Yellachich specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of macular and retinal conditions:

  • Macular degeneration
  • Retinal vascular diseases (Diabetic retinopathy, Retinal vein occlusions)
  • Retinal detachment surgery
  • Macular hole surgery
  • Macular pucker surgery
  • Complex cataract surgery and secondary intraocular lens implantation
  • Infective and inflammatory diseases of the posterior pole
  • Inherited retinal dystrophies

Dr Dimitri Yellachich undertakes constant further professional study in cutting edge ophthalmic imaging and surgical techniques both nationally and internationally.

Ophthalmology Training

Dr Dimitri Yellachich undertook his general ophthalmology training in Perth and subsequent subspecialty training at the Western Eye Hospital, London, UK and at Stanford University, California, USA.

Shortly after returning to Perth Dr Yellachich became head of department of Fremantle eye department and started his own private practice. South Street Eye clinic now has four subspecialty trained eye surgeons.

Dr Yellachich has over the years been very involved in teaching both to medical students at Notre Dame University and UWA as well as ongoing training at eye surgeons at Fremantle hospital.

Past Research Interests
With a special interest in biomedical technology Dr Dimitri Yellachich was fortunate enough to be involved in the development, initial clinical use and is one of the patent holders of the now commonly used PAtterned SCAnning Laser (PASCAL).

PASCAL has changed the way retinal laser is undertaken in the clinic for conditions such as diabetic retinopathy and retinal vein occlusions.

During his time at Stanford University he was also involved in cutting edge research in the field of retinal cell transplantation.
